Ferry evacuated after engine failure
The 'Sehit Metin Sulus', en route from the Istanbul passenger ferry terminal to the Prince Island ferry terminal in the Marmara Sea with 238 passengers and eight crew members on board, suffered an engine failure and drifted south of Prince Island on Jan 1, 2020, at 2 p.m. Repairs could not be carried out by the crew and assistance was requested in order to evacuatethe passengers to another vessel. A similar type of vessel in the area attended the scene and double berthed. All passengers were safely transferred onto the vessel and subsequently taken to shore. After completing the passenger transfer operation, the vessel shifted to the Kartal ferry terminal to carry out repairs.
