Emergency repair in Oberhausen

The "Somtrans IX" is getting an emergency repair at the Concordia Port in Oberhausen after the bridge allision on Aug 23. The damage was assessed to be around 200000 Euro. The captain when realizing that the wheelhouse was not lowered enough for pussing underneath the Sterkrader Bridge had tried to get astern, but without avail. The ship was coming from Rotterdam with 2000 tons nafta when the accident happened.

Wheelhouse crushed in bridge allision

In the afternoon of Aug 23, 2011, the "Somtrans IX" allided with a bridge spanning the Rhine-Herne-Canal in Oberhausen. A part of the wheelhouse broke off and fell onto the main deck. No injuries repored. The ship was still able to berth near the "Kaiser Garden". The fire rescue and divers were on scene, but were not needed. The police closed the canal for the time of investigations.
