Coastguard dropped off pump to keep ship afloat

Fri Dec 02 11:40:28 CET 2016 Timsen

The "Tide 'N Knots" took on water 32 kilometres off the coast of Nova Scotia on Dec 1, 2016. The ship had problems with the engine and exhaust earlier in the day and had turned around towards shore when crew member Curtis Thibault noticed seawater filling the fish hold. The crew got their pump out and radioed for help. It was not clear why the boat was filling with water. A Hercules, along with a Cormorant helicopter and several Canadian Coast Guard vessels, were dispatched to the scene to help after the call came into the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre around 8:30 a.m. The Hercules aircraft dropped another pump down to the fishing vessel, making the situation stable. The "Tide 'N Knot" was escorted back to shore by another fishing boat and the Coastguard vessel "Geliget". The ship arrived safely in Yarmouth Harbour around 2 p.m. and berthed near the ferry terminal. The crew hoped to repair the vessel in time to head back out on Dec 2 morning, however, the ship remained tied up that day.
