Rescued yachtie dropped off in Manzanillo, dog will stay on board of trawler

Fri Jul 21 09:48:56 CEST 2023 Timsen

After the 'Maria Delia' berthed in Manzanillo, the Australian sailor Thimothy Shaddock was disembarked and has left his dog Bella behind, giving the dog to the captain who saved them. After three months at sea, Thimothy Shaddock and Bella were rescued by zjr fishing vessel. In April, the duo departed from the Mexican port of La Paz on the sailing catamaran 'Aloha toa' to French Polynesia. After a few weeks, the ship was caught in a severe sea storm, rendering the ship rudderless and causing a power failure. The skipper could therefore no longer communicate, and the eman and the dog were completely on their own. Bella was a great support for Shaddock. Despite their good relationship, Shaddock now leaves Bella in Mexico. Mexico is not on the list of countries from which pets can be imported into Australia. Previously it was still possible to import pets via another approved country, but that is no longer possible since March 2023. Shaddock explained that the dog was of Mexican descent and that he found her in La Paz just before leaving. He had been trying to find a home for Bella, but since she kept chasing him, he decided to take her on his sailing trip.

Tuna trawler rescued missing sailor after months adrift on disabled catamaran

Tue Jul 18 12:13:33 CEST 2023 Timsen

The 'Maria Delia' has rescued the stranded yachtie Timothy Lyndsay Shaddock, 51, from Sydney, and his dog following three months surviving on raw fish and rainwater. They were found floating in the Pacific Ocean, 1200 kilometers from the shore, after a storm damaged the electronics and communication system of the catamaran 'Aloha Toa', just weeks after they had set off. The sailer had just got fishing gear and survival gear. Shaddock had left La Paz in Mexico in April and was attempting to reach French Polynesia, more than 5,000 km away. A helicopter conducting surveillance for the trawler found them on July 12, 2023. The tuna boat's crew gave them medical attention, food and hydration. The tuna trawler was now heading back to Manzanillo with an ETA as of July 18, where Shaddock will undergo medical tests and receive more treatment if needed.
