German patrol boats saved seven migrants from rock

Fri Apr 29 14:04:30 CEST 2016 Timsen

On Apr 28, 2016, seven migrants were rescued off Samos by the "Uckermark" and "Börde" in the frame of the Frontex-mission "Poseidon Rapid Intervention". Upon the alert at 4.55 p.m. both ships headed for the position with high speed. One officer aboard the "Uckermark" then remarked several persons who had saved themselves on steep rocks north of Samos and landed three crew members with a daughter boat under dangerous conditions. They found out, that it was a Syrian family, among them three smalll children and one old woman, all in bad physical state. Two more officers were embarked with water and medical supplies, while members of the Greek fire brigade were approaching the site from the shore. Within one hour, all could be recovered from the rocks and transferred onto the "Börde" and later taken to Vathy aboard the "Uckermark".
