Fire in Schuilenburg

Sun Feb 19 12:48:42 CET 2012 Timsen

On Feb 19, 2012, at 8.30 a.m. a crewman from the "Nadorias" remarked smoke emerging from the rear of the "Waldpoarte" which was anchoring near Jistrum on the Prins Margriet Canal at Skûlenboarch (Schuilenburg). The "Nadorias" took the "Waldpoarte" alongside and pushed it to the quay, assisted by the "Eemspoort". Here the fire rescue already awaited the smoking ship in order to tackle the fire. When the fire brigades from Drogeham, Gytsjerk and Burgum boarded the ship, open fire was visible and dense smoke emerged. The fire was raging in the engine room. It was a comlicated matter to fight the fire due to the great heat, and by noon the ship was still alight. The fire rescue hoped to get the fire tackled with foam.
