Cruise ship evacuated after engine room fire

Tue Jun 06 09:31:21 CEST 2023 Timsen

The engine room of the 'Wilderness Discoverer' caught fire in the Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska, in the morning of June 5, 2023, with 51 passengers and 15 crew members on board. The US Coast Guard and the nearby cruise ship 'Sapphire Princess' quickly responded and evacuated all passengers and non-essential crew from board. The fire was extinguished by sealing off the engine room and activating the CO2 system. As the ship was disabled, it was taken in tow by the tug Takun Wind' (IMO: 8991700) at around 7.30 p.m. LT towards Ketchikan. Return of cruising Alaska on small cruiseships

Sun Jun 05 15:00:11 CEST 2011 arnekiel

InnerSea Discoveries' two small cruise ships made their Ketchikan debuts in May, launching the return of adventure-focused small-ship cruising to southern Southeast Alaska. Ketchikan is the southern turnaround port for the seven-night, one-way voyages that the 169-foot Wilderness Discoverer and 156-foot Wilderness Adventurer are sailing this season between the First City and Juneau. Equipped with fleets of kayaks and paddle boards, the shallow-draft ships visit places well away from the big ship itineraries.
