Ferry detained for investigations

The 'Wira Glory' has been detained by the Indonesian National Water Police in the port of Sibolga as part of the investigation of the collision with a fishing boat. Local authorities have collected information from witnesses as well as the crew. Initial reports stated that the 'Wira Glory' crew saw the fishing boat approaching and tried to use signal lights and sounds to alert them, however the proximity of the two vessels were too near and could not avoid the collision.

One dead and six injured in collision

One man was killed and six others were injured aboard the f/v KM 'Sinar Mas Jaya' when the vessel with a crew of 24 on board collided with the KMP 'Wira Glory' in the evening of Aug 23, 2020, at 8 p.m. in the Sibolga Bay, North Sumatra. The fishing vessel was badly damaged, and all seven victims were transported to the Sibolga hospital. The deadly injured has been identified as Miswar Andri Matondang, 52, the master of the vessel. The accident happened when the 'Sinar Mas Jaya' had unmoored from the Beringin fishery and was heading to sea for catching fish, while the KMP 'Wira Glory' was entering Sibolga Port from the opposite direction.. The master of the KMP 'Wira Glory' had flashed warning lights and sounded the siren as the fishing vessel approached, but then it veered to the wrong side of the ferry. Mayhem on ferry in Indian Ocean - three dead, more injured

While the "Wira Glory" was en route from Sibolga Port, Western Sumatra, to Gunungsitoli port upon Nias Island in the Indian Ocean on Dec 19 ,2017, a 56-year old passenger ran amok and attacked other passengers with a knife and a steel bar, killing two of them and seriously wounded one, who was in critical condition. A security officer on board of the ferry ran to the scene and tried to calm down and disarm the man, but to no avail, he was irresponsive. Then the guard fired warning shots, but the man didn’t respond, so finally, the guard shoot him in legs and breast. The man tried to commit suicide by cutting his throat. He was disarmed and secured by the guard and other passengers, but later died from blood loss.
