Port crane caught fire during cargo operations

Tue Aug 27 11:45:42 CEST 2019 Timsen

A Harbour Mobile Crane (HMC) was on fire in the evening of Aug 26, 2019, while loading iron ore into the holds of the "Yasa Falcon" at WQ-1 berth in the inner port of Visakhapatnam. The fire had started in the engine room of the crane, owned by the Seapol Port Ltd. The vessel, which was engulfed in billowing smoke, was shifted away from the berth and the crane operator got off the crane safely. The VPT deployed its fire boat, shore fire tenders and water tankers for controlling the fire, which was doused after 1,5 hours. A short circuit due to snapping of belts was thought to have been the probable cause for the fire Report with photo: https://www.thehansindia.com/andhra-pradesh/visakhapatnam-port-crane-engulfs-in-fire-558507
