Crane collapsed at Altinova shipyard
A severe storm that hit the Altınova shipyard area on Jan 8, 2026, at around noon caused a crane to collapse at the Özata Denizcilik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. (OZATD) shipyard due to the wind, causing great panic among the workers on site. Prior to the incident, weather conditions were closely monitored, and work areas were evacuated as a precautionary measure. The crane lost its balance and workers, noticing the crane collapsing, quickly fled to open areas. There were no fatalities or injuries. Following the incident, there was a brief period of activity in the shipyard area, and security measures were increased. While the effects of the storm continued in the region, work began to remove the overturned crane and assess the damage. The shipyard and all equipment are covered by valid insurance policies. The ship repair and maintenance processes was to be continued as planned, the yard announced.
