Felixstowe stable but backlog remains

Fri Sep 07 08:04:26 CEST 2018 arnekiel

The Port of Felixstowe's Trinity Quay remains congested with a backlog of cargo built up in August, following problems with the port's terminal operating system (TOS). Landguard is gradually returning to normal said the port, while quayside productivity continues to recover with corresponding improvement in container throughput, although the pace of progress is “slower than we would have liked,” said the port. “The first of the services that diverted temporarily to other ports, the jointly-operated Seago, Hamburg Sud and CMA CGM Levant service, returned to Felixstowe on 23rd August, and we are discussing with our shipping line customers welcoming back more services in the coming weeks,” the port reported. http://www.portstrategy.com/news101/world/europe/felixstowe-stable-but-backlog-remains

Port of Felixstowe Starts Recovery

Fri Jul 27 10:45:16 CEST 2018 arnekiel

The Port of Felixstowe has started to recover from the delays experienced in early July 2018, caused by the failure of its terminal operating system (TOS). The Hutchison Ports facility’s increased throughput has come after the port made key upgrades to the TOS over the course of last week. It handled 74,000 TEU in the week ending 22 July, a rise of 70,000 TEU from the previous week, although this is still lower than throughput handled in July 2017. Hutchison Ports reported that it had handled 11,600 rail containers during the week commencing June 16, including a 15% increase in the number of containers loaded to trains. https://www.porttechnology.org/news/port_of_felixstowe_starts_recovery

Maersk looks to Liverpool as Felixstowe continues to struggle

Sun Jul 15 10:49:48 CEST 2018 arnekiel

MAERSK Line is moving two 2M alliance service calls to Liverpool for 12 weeks as continuing problems at Felixstowe provide a boost to Peel Ports’ operation in the northwest of the UK. The first vessels diverting to Liverpool will be the 2006-built, 7,943 teu ARCHIMIDIS on the TA2 service and 2004-built, 2,556 teu CAP BEATRICE on the COEX service to Liverpool on July 22 and July 20 respectively. “Unfortunately, Felixstowe terminal is suffering from slow operations caused by IT system issues,” Maersk said in a statement. “In order to protect our service integrity, we will be moving our 2M TA2 and COEX services from Felixstowe to Liverpool for a duration of 12 weeks.” Felixstowe has been suffering from congestion following the implementation of a new terminal operating system last month. As Lloyd’s List reported yesterday, Felixstowe is continuing to struggle with performance issues, particularly with loading export containers.
