Five Emirati boats attacked by Iranian marine patrols

Mon May 18 11:37:01 CEST 2015 arnekiel

Some Iranian marine patrols recently attacked five Emirati boats in international waters of the Arabian Gulf claiming the latter had entered the regional waters of Iran illegally. In the first of these, four fishermen, including an Emirati Nukhada or boat captain, were attacked by an Iranian marine patrol in the international waters, 30km off the coasts of Ras Al Khaimah. According to sources and Emirati fishermen, the Iranian patrol started chasing the 42-year-old Emirati fisherman and three Asian workers onboard when they tried to escape 40km off the UAE coasts. “Two marine patrols finally surrounded the boat, took hold of it, and severely thrashed the fishermen, including the owner of the fishing boat, on Thursday afternoon around 3.30pm,” they said. Rescue Operation begins to salvage sunken iranian cargo ship

Sun Dec 30 17:32:03 CET 2012 arnekiel

UAE authorities have started the operation to salvage a cargo ship that sank on Friday. Six crewmen were rescued from the Iranian-registered Al Jasourah about 10 nautical miles off the coast of Umm Al Quwain, an official told Gulf News, and divers from the UAE Coast Guard and police are investigating the scene. High waves caused by a storm in the area and the heavy load of fibreglass the ship was carrying are thought to have contributed to the sinking, which occurred between Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah at around 10.30am. The ship had left Sharjah and was heading for Iran at the time of the incident, said authorities. The operation room of Umm Al Quwain Civil Defence received an emergency call reporting that a cargo ship was struggling in rough seas and that its crew members had sent out a distress call. http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/emergencies/operation-begins-to-salvage-sunken-cargo-ship-1.1125655
