SANTOS DEPLOYS DRONES DURING VESSEL RESUPPLY
From this month, all vessel refuelling and resupplying at the Port of Santos will be monitored by drones, a move that the port authority hopes will boost security and identify leaks, which it can then move quickly to rectify.
The director of logistics operations at the Companhia Docas do Estado de São Paulo (Codesp), Carlos Henrique de Oliveira Poço, revealed that trials have already taken place, with the eventual contract involving drones being flown over the port 24 hours a day, including weekends and on holidays.
Of particular interest is the mooring of supply barges during resupply operations and the removal of the fuel hoses once these operations have been completed. Codesp wants to avoid incidents such as that which occurred in 2016, when 2,000 litres of oil spilled into the water, resulting in fines of $6,000 levied by the environmental authorities. www.portstrategy....
