Deadline set for removal of capsized crane vessel in Russian-occupied Crimea

Thu May 28 13:00:43 CEST 2026 Timsen

Authorities in Russia have set November 27, 2026, as the deadline for the removal of the wreck of the crane vessel 'Gregory Prosyankin', which had suddenly overturned in the Yuzhnaya Bay in occupied Crimea, while tits crane was undergoing testing, which claimed two lives on Oct 28, 2025. 20 others had suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Of the 20 injured, at least 15 fell into the water as the vessel capsized. At least seven survivors needed to undergo treatment in hospital. The 'Gregory Prosyankin' was to be used to support maintenance of Russian Navy surface ships and submarines. It was originally scheduled to be operational by 2020. However, its construction had been beset by delays, and work on the vessel temporarily ceased in 2023. The United Shipbuilding Corporation's Zvezdochka Ship Repair Centre, the owner of the vessel, had originally been given a deadline of April 27. However, the company was unable to complete the removal of the vessel due to autumn and winter weather conditions as well as restrictions imposed by the Russian Ministry of Defence on navigation in the area where the capsizing occurred. The wreck did not impact other activities at the port. Two Russian landing ships disabled by Ukraine in occupied territory

Wed Apr 22 12:19:18 CEST 2026 Timsen

In a nighttime attack on the night of April 18, 2026, a special unit of Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR) has hit two amphibious ships at their moorings in the Sevastopol Bay as well as a strategic radar. The identified targets were the Project 775-class landing ship Yamal' and the Project 1171-class landing ship 'Nikolai Filchenkov' of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Both ships were disabled as a result of the targeted operation. They were among the key means used by Russia to transport troops and equipment to the front, and that their neutralisation significantly reduced Moscow's naval projection capabilities in the Black Sea. During the same operation, Ukrainian intelligence destroyed the Russian Podlyot-K1 radar and struck a fuel depot in Hvardiiske, which was a serious blow to the air surveillance capabilities and logistical support of Russian forces on the temporary occupied Crimea. The value of the mobile radar, designed to detect low-altitude targets and to feed the S-300 and S-400 air defense systems, is estimated at around €4.2 million. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces confirmed the strikes on the ships as well as these additional targets in the occupied territory, illustrating a coordinated campaign against critical Russian infrastructure. Russian navy ship caught fire in occupied Sevastopol

Tue Nov 04 12:26:29 CET 2025 Timsen

In the temporarily Russian occupied Sevastopol, a Russian anti-submarine ship of the project 1124-M Albatros-M type of the Russian Black Sea Fleet caught fire on Nov 3 near the pier in Sukharna Bay. The ship could be identified despite the superstructure being covered with camouflage nets. The Russian Black Sea Fleet has four such old ships from the 1980s, the 'Muromets', 'Suzdalets', 'Kasimov' and the 'Yeysk'. Two of them were evacuated in 2024 to the Novorossiysk naval base, and two remained in Sevastopol.
