Three sailors lost and found in the fog

Thu Mar 21 18:08:03 CET 2019 Timsen

Three crew members of the "Alana Evita" which was anchored in the Bristol Channel off Minehead, UK, went ashore on an RHIB in the evening of March 20, 2019, to relax in a local bar in Barry. The sailors of Russian, Dutch and Philippine nationality sailed back to the ship at 3.45 a.m. but did not reach the ship. They were reported overdue at 7 a.m. after they got lost in foggy conditions in the channel. The Minehead RNLI’s Atlantic class lifeboat and Barry Dock’s Trent all-weather lifeboat were launched just after 7 a.m. to assist in the search. As the search continued, two lifeboats from Penarth RNLI, the Atlantic 85 and D-class lifeboat, along with Ilfracombe RNLI’s Shannon class lifeboat also launched to assist at around 8 a.m. All five lifeboats lifeboats carried out detailed searches along their coastlines. The sailors were found safe but very cold on Flat Holm Island at 8:30 a.m. by Penarth RNLI volunteers. After being assessed by the RNLI volunteers the Coastguard 187 helicopter landed on the island to further assess the casualties but it was decided they were well enough to return to land by lifeboat. All lifeboats were stood down and returned to their relative stations. Allision in Svetly

Thu Dec 29 15:41:20 CET 2016 Timsen

On Dec 23, 2016, the "Key Marmara" allided with the Dutch freighter "Alana Evita" which was docked in Svetly in the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad. The tanker came off course and could not stop in time so it slammed into the starboard side of the freighter, which had arrived from Gdansk on Dec 21 and which suffered a big hole in the hull - partially below the waterline - the hull being penetrated by the bulbous bow. The "Key Marmara" suffered only small damage and continued its voyage from Kaliningrad to Egersund on Dec 26, while the "Alana Evica" will have to undergo substantial repairs first.
