Rig delivered to breakers
The "Salvanguard" under command of Captain Neil Johnston delivered safely the "Alaskan Star" in Aliaga where the rig was handed over to local tugs prior to beaching. The "Salvanguard" berthed in Besiktas on May 1, 2017.

The AHT "Salvanguard" took back the "Alaskan Star" from the VB "Hispania" off Gran Canaria. The VB "Hispania" was holding the "Alaskan Star" while the "Salvanguard" went to Las Palmas for fuel and stores. The convoy was en route to Aliaga, ETA Apr 28, 2017.
Drilling rig Alaskan Star caught fire and tilted
Semi-submersible drilling rig SS-39 (Alaskan Star) caught fire at around 1430 LT March 13, fire was extinguished, rig tilted 3 degrees, tilt was caused by a build up of water that was used to extinguish a fire in one of its columns, said Petrobras. Later it was said, that Petrobras - Petroleo Brasileiro SA (PETR4), the biggest deepwater oil producer, shut a well at Brazil’s seventh-biggest producing field after a platform tilted three degrees. Rig is stationed 193 km off the coast of Macae in the Campos Basin. No injures among 102 staff on board of the rig.
