Freighter back in service after partial capsize in 2017

Permanent repair works to the 'Ali Aga' have been completed at a Tuzla shipyard during the last days of August 2019. Final stability and incline test were conducted under supervision of state surveyors and all other inspection, test and sea trials were carried out with satisfactorily results. Upon completion of the formalities, a new set of trading certificates were issued by the flag state authority. The vessel has returned to trade with the same name and owners and sailed from Tuzla on Sep 29. The ship had suffered a loss of stability and partially capsized to its starboard side at Bandirma on May 14, 2017. It was refloated on June 30 and berthed after the cargo was removed.

Ship capsized in Bandırma

The "Ali Aga" suffered water ingress while loading cargo at Çelebi in the Bandırma district on May 14, 2017. The vessel capsized and sank at its berth within a few minutes, resting on its starboard side, partially above water. The ship, coming from İzmir Aliağa Port to load empty containers in Bandırma Çelebi Port in Balikesir, had been sidelined due to faulty loading.The master had ordered his crew to abandon ship before it capsized. A total of 12 people were injured, including crew members and port officers. Of these, 10 were treated on scene, and 2 were hospitalized.all were reported safe. The wreck was surrounded by booms to prevent an oil spill.
