Allision on the Rhein at Weil

On the Rhine at Weil the "Alorba“, 3178 ts (EU-No.: 02336829;), pushing the "Alorba II", 2432 ts (EU-No.: 02335033), allided with the Palmrain Bridge on June 23, 2018, at 4.30 a.m. The vessel was loaded with containers and coming from Basel, sailing northwards. Short before passing the bridge, the master remarked that the hydraulic to lower the wheelhouse failed. Short time later it slammed against the bridge. The man fled in time, but was slightly hurt by glas splinters. The wheelhouse was pushed backwards and suffered severe damage. The ship pcould be anchored at the height of the port Nord on the French river side. The master alerted the traffic control in Basel which informed rescue services in Germany and France. The barge could be shifted to the German river side in the foremidday and moored at the shore. An operation center was established in the port of Weil. The fire rescue transferred the injured master ashore where he was medically treated. the Palmrain Bridge was closed for traffic by the police at 8 a.m. until surveys had been carried out.
