Engine room fire in Quebec

The 'Amundsen' suffered a minor fire in the engine room while moored in Quebec in position 46 48 29.7 N, 71 12 09.5 W, on Feb 2, 2021, at 09.15 a.m. The fire was successfully extinguished. No injuries or pollution were reported. The ship remained stationary in port as of Feb 7.

Icebreaker disabled on St. Lawrence River

The "Amundsen" was disabled in the St. Lawrence River off Cacouna, Quebec, due to a propulsion failure in position 47 59 40.5 N, 69 39 51.2 W, on May 31, 2019, at 2 a.m. The crew carried out repairs while the vessel was drifting and the vessel resumed its voyage from Quebec to Halifax, ETA June 3.

Crankshaft explosion on icebreaker

On Feb 10, 2018, at 11.20 a.m. the "Amundsen" suffered a crankcase explosion on its main engine No 4, in position 47 43.35N, 069 54W. The vessel which had sailed from Quebec on Feb 9 resumed its voyage using the five remaining engines. One minor injury was reported. On Feb 15 at 6 a.m. the ship berthed at Gros Cacouna.
