European Express collides with Aqua Jewel at Perama
Ro-ro passenger ship EUROPEAN EXPRESS broke off her mooring and collided with next to her docked ro-ro passenger ship AQUA JEWEL at Perama Ship Repair Yard in the morning Aug 13. Both vessels said to suffer damages, extent unknown, but no leak reported. According to AIS, both vessels are under repairs at Perama Ship Repair Yard. On Aug 1 both vessels experienced similar accident: Passenger ro-ro ship EUROPEAN EXPRESS broke off her moorings at Perama Yard, Piraeus, on Aug 1, hitting starboard of a ferry AQUA JEWEL , berthed nearby, and another unidentified vessel. AQUA JEWEL said to suffer serious damages. EUROPEAN EXPRESS is either in repairs or in a lay-up, vessel’s last AIS dated March 2015. Understood AQUA JEWEL was undergoing repairs.
Ferry damaged by drifting other ferry
The ferry "European Express" caused serious material damage to two anchored ships off a shipyard in Perama in the port of Piraeus - the "Aqua Jewel" and the tanker "Sotiria" - in the afternoon of Aug 1, 2017. The "European Express" broke lose from her moorings and drifted against the starboard side of the "Aqua Jewel" which then hit the adjacent tanker. After the allision, the "European Express" was safely taken back to its berth with tug assistance. The port authority launched a preliminary investigation, all involved ships were detained until the submission of Class A certificates of seaworthiness by the relevant classification societies.
