Astron supports Dutch Runner
The Labrador provincial government is bringing in a second ship to help clear a backlog of freight headed to the north coast of Labrador. The "Astron" will assist the "Dutch Runner" to help clear freight before the end of the Labrador North Coast shipping season. The "Astron" is currently being loaded at Lewisporte and is scheduled to depart once loading is complete. The vessel will complete two freight delivery cycles to ports north to Nain, with the option of a third cycle should freight volume warrant, in order to clear all freight before the end of the shipping season.
4 men rescued from burning fishing vessel 'Cape Dawns'
A man is dead after a fishing vessel caught fire about 65 kilometres east of St. Anthony, off northern Newfoundland Friday night. Four others were rescued. Crew on the Cape Daws sent out the mayday last night and abandoned ship after the fire broke out. The four who were plucked from the icy waters by the MV Astron a were wearing survival suits. The other man, recovered by a Cormorant helicopter out of Gander, only had a life jacket. His body was recovered and brought to St. Anthony. The MV Astron is taking the four survivors to Lewisporte and is expected to arrive about 9:00 a.m. Saturday.

The "Astron" was engaged in refloating the grounded oil tanker "Mokami" in the harbour of a small coastal Labrador community on Oct 4, 2010. The "Mokami", a 91-metre vessel owned by the Labrador-based Woodward Group, ran into trouble shortly after making a fuel delivery in Cartwright in the morning. There was no fuel aboard the Mokami when the incident happened. After the "Astron" arrived, she pulled the Mokami to safety early afternoon.
