Avalon Tranquility stabilized at Vilshofen

Wed Sep 07 10:39:38 CEST 2011 Timsen

The "Avalon Tranquility" remained at Vilshofen on Sep 6 after 40 - 60 litres gas oil had been spilt before. Fire rescue and THW had laid out oil barriers and pumped off the oil. It was not yet decided when the ship which was stabilized by the "Panther" berthed alongside in the winter port of Vilshofen would be allowed to proceed to Linz for permanent repairs. Complications during transit

Mon Sep 05 10:36:02 CEST 2011 Timsen

On Sep 4 at 4 p.m. divers were called one more time to the "Avalon Tranqqiulity" as the leak was too large to get the ship towed to Passau. When the towage finally started on Sep 5 at 9 a.n., the ship spilt about 20 litres diesel fuel due to technical complications. The fire rescue Vilshofen was called and surrounded the spill with oil booms. At 9 a.m. the tow continued its transit and was expected in Pasaau around 11 a.m. and Linz about 8 hours later. The Danube at Deggendorf meanwhile had been reopened ship traffic at 1.10 p.m. on Sep 4 though there were still some more problems with queued ships at river km 2263 near Loh.
