Mon Jun 06 15:01:34 CEST 2022 Timsen

The Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) is likely to retrieve or repair the 'Banglar Samriddhi', which was hit by a missile of a Russian Navy ship, while anchored off Oktyabrsk, Ukraine, on March 2, 2022. The superstructure had caught fire, and the 3rd engineer died. 28 crew member were evacuated from the port of Olvia on March 3. The ship was abandoned after the rocket attack. The matter was discussed during a meeting of the standing committee of parliament on the shipping ministry on June 2. The Singapore-based consultancy firm Aqualis Braemar LOC (ABL) has informed that the BSC is not eligible for getting its full insurance claim of 22.8 million Dollars for the damaged ship as per insurance law. The ABL estimates the total cost of rescuing and repairing the 'Banglar Samriddhi' at 3.3 million Dollars. Meanwhile, the standing committee suggested appointing a consultant to determine whether abandoning the ship or rescuing it would benefit the country.
