Salvage attempts failed

Tue Oct 12 21:14:40 CEST 2021 Timsen

The 'Bear' remained stuck after salvage attempts failed so far in spite of deploying a larger tug from Atlantic City which could not be hooked up due to the surf pounding the ship. The Coast Guard removed over 2,300 gallons of fuel to mitigate the chance of pollution. Crews also removed and saved the boats' catch -- 11 bags of scallops. Salvors planned another attempt on AOct 12, Conditions on Oct 11 were just not safe enough to put people near the stranded vessel. State officials closed Area 23 of the park due to concerns over high tides and strong winds in the night of Oct 10. Scalloper ran aground

Sun Oct 10 20:47:05 CEST 2021 Timsen

The 'Bear' ran aground near Island Beach State Park in the night of Oct 8, 2021, and was still stuck as of Oct 10. The Seaside Heights Fire Department was dispatched to the scene around 10 p.m. The three crew members were on board with no injuries, he said. It was unknown why the vessel ran aground. The scalloper was heading in for the night when it ran aground. In the morning of Oct 9 a 110 ft-tug from BoatUS came to assist. The fire brigade launched a jet ski and helped bring a tow rope from the vessel to the tugs. The attempts to pull the vessel from the were unsuccessful, as the 'Bear' remained stuck because of the changing tides.
