Drunken Russian captain lost his command

Tue Mar 18 10:49:55 CET 2014 Timsen

The Dutch police brought a drunk Russian captain from the "Beaumonde" on Mar 16, 2014, in Terneuzen. The man has been banned from sailing for 14 hours and had to pay a fine of 1800 Euros. A pilot who had embarked on the ship had got the impression that the man was drunk and reported this to the agents. At the request of the police, the pilot berthed the ship in Terneuzen at 2.30 a.m., one hour into its voyage. When the police officers went on board they found the captain being barely able to stand on his feet and talking with a double tongue. The man was taken to the police station for a breathalyzer test. The Russian had a blood alcohol level of 2.5 per mille, which was five times more than the amount permitted by law. The man paid the fine immediately and was persuaded by his employer to immediately disembark from the ship which had departed from Ghent on Mar 15 and was on the way to Cork with a cargo of fertilizer on board. It finally sailed from Terneuzen on Mar 16 short past midnight and was being expected in Cork on Mar 18 at 7 p.m.
