Bergensfjord caught in storm

Wed Dec 14 18:25:15 CET 2011 Timsen

The "Bergensfjord" was caught in the storm in the afternoon of Dec 14, 2011, for over a day off Egernsund. Waves of six to ten metres made it impossible for the ferry to dock. The "Bergensfjord" sailed from Hirtshals on Dec 13 with 205 passengers on board. with ETA 2.30 a.m. at the port of Risavika in Stavanger. Passengers described the situation as absolutely terrible with everything flowing, TVs falling from the walls and chairs tumbling. In the smoking room eveything was crushed. Some passengers were said to be slightly injured, among them a woman who was sleeping in a cabin, when a storage fell down on her. The captain has now headed off the shore in the hope that the waves are smaller there and turned the ship against the waves. Based on the weather forecasts when leaving Hirtshals he had expected to reach Stavanger before the weather deteriorated, but the storm came faster than expected. The Fjord Line Company is monitoring the situation.
