Wheelhouse crushed in allision

Sat Jun 14 19:49:35 CEST 2014 Timsen

On June 12, 2014, around 8 a.m. the "Berkel 01" allided with a bridge at South--Willemsvaart near Den Bosch. While the wheelhouse was crushed and the debris pushed onto the car stored on the accomodation section, the skipper remained uninjured. The police investigated that he had misjudged the height of the ship. The ship was able to proceed to the container terminal Veghel before getting repaired. Containers fell from crane onto barge

Wed Mar 12 21:35:18 CET 2014 Timsen

In the morning of Mar 11, 2014, two 20-foot containers fell from a crane in the Amazone Port of Rotterdam during unloading operations from the self propelled barge "Berkel 1" (CS: PE3878; MMSI: 244700670; EU-No.: 02309364) with the barge "ITV 1", 497 ts (EU-No.: 02300509), of the Van Berkel Shipping from Veghel at the DBF quay. No one was hurt. The crane master thought he handled a 40-ft-container instead of two 20-ft-boxes. Therefore, the twist locks were not adjusted properly. The barge was damaged when the containers fell down on it, but did not suffer a leak. Also the crane was damaged. The containers were returned to the client, to check whether there was cargo damage. The ships were operating on a service between Rotterdam and the container port in Veghel. Dutch report with photo: http://www.schuttevaer.nl/nieuws/actueel/nid20455-containers-vallen-uit-kraan.html#
