No trace of four missing crew members

On Jan 28, 2018, technical inspections and underwater surveys at the "Bilal Bal" were finalised by the Maritime Authority. There were no news about the missing four crew members. The ship had capsized off Sile in position 41 17 05 N 29 44 20 E 01 in Nov 2017. The Turkish Coast Guard and Coastal Safety teams had attended the incident and started an SAR operation. The legal file was still open by court as regards local regulations.

Body of missing crew member found in the sea

On Nov 7, the body of one more crew member was recovered from the "Bilal Bal" as recovery efforts continued for a third day. The body was recovered from the sea six days after the vessel sank, raising the death toll to four. The Transport Ministry had said that there was no captain on duty on board the vessel. Before the accident, three of the crew members had disembarked and one sailor got on the ship without the permission or knowledge of the port authorities. The ship’s captain, chief mechanic, and motormanhad left the vessel without reporting it to the authorities. An investigation has been launched into the incident.

Divers found three bodies

The Turkish Coastguard has found the bodies of three crew members of the "Bilal Bal" that sank in the Black Sea, off the coast of Istanbul. Divers located the bodies on Nov 3 inside the wreck. The search for the other seven missing crew members was continuing. The ship was transporting iron ore from the port of Gemlik in the Sea of Marmara to the Turkish Black Sea port of Eregli when it sank by yet unknown reasons.
