Ferry damaged during docking manoever
On the morning of Feb 2, 2026, the 'Bluestar Patmos' ran aground while docking in the port of Megisti (Kastellorizo Island). The accident resultied in a damage at the port side stern at the height of and above the waterline. The accident happened while the ferry was entering and making a right turn. The wind actually dragged it close to the Lighthouse where it probably hit the propelle. The ship was on a scheduled route from the island of Rhodes to the port of Megisti, with 36 passengers, nine private vehicles, three trucks, three motorcycles and 81 crew members on board. There were no injuries from the incident and no marine pollution was observed. The ferry did not complete the approach process, due to the adverse weather conditions, and left the port. The Central Port Authority of Rhodes has banned the sailing of the ship until the presentation of a certificate of class maintenance by the classification society monitoring it. A tug with technical personnel from the ship-owning company was deployed to the ferry. With the care of the ship-owning company, free cabins and meals were offered to the ship's passengers. Shortly afterwards, the ferry company informed its passengers that the crossing from Kastellorizo on Feb 2 at 11:15 a.m. on the route Rhodes – Symi – Tilos – Nisyros – Kos – Kalymnos – Astypalaia – Piraeus and on Feb 3 from Piraeus at 3:00 p.m. on the route Patmos- Lipsos – Leros – Kalymnos – Kos – Symi – Rhodes and return was cancelled. The port of Rhodes has ordered an investigation. Bluestar Ferries announced that the next crossings would be operated by the ferry "Delos" instead of the "Patmos." The "Delos" was only recently replaced by the "Bluestar 1" on the Cyclades route for dry docking. The 'Bluestar Patmos' left Rhodes on Feb 2 and berthed at the shipyard area in Elevsis on Feb 4, where it remained stationary as of Feb 9.
