Bülk being surveyed at Lindenau Yard after accident
The "Bülk" will be out of service for some weeks after a piece of the attachment of the cable was thrown with considerable force into the wheelhouse. The starboard side of the command device and the helm was completely destroyed in the accident. The tug is now assessed at the Lindenau Shipyard in Kiel-Friedrichsort. The Water Police also imposed the ship until the case is fully investigated.
Tug damaged by snapping cable
The master of the "Bülk" was severely injured at the arm when a cable of the Klaipeda-bound cargo m/v "Sound Futura" snapped while the ship was being assisted into the Kiel-Holtenau lock of the Kiel Canal on Sep 24, 2012, at 6.30 a.m. When the freighter was stopped, the cable broke, and one end smashed a window of the tug's wheelhouse. The master was taken by ambulance to hospital for further medical treatment. Several installations of the wheelhouse were damaged in the accident so that the tug had to be taken out of service.Upload News
