Gas explosion killed one crew member, injured another

Fri Sep 22 09:28:24 CEST 2017 Timsen

The "Bum Kang" suffered an explosion on Sep 22, 2017, at 1 a.m. The unloaded tanker was under way off Samcheok in the Gangwon Province. There were 11 crew members on board. One Indonesian crew member was killed and one Korean crew member suffered serious injures. The tanker, which was five miles off Samcheok, turned towards the port, arriving there at 2.25 a.m. under own power. The explosion didn’t cause a fire, only a lot of smoke. At the time of the explosion the tanker was degassing cargo tanks which caused the detonation by evaporating gas.
