Repairs completed after leakage off Amrum

Wed May 22 21:38:36 CEST 2019 Timsen

Repairs of the "Butjadingen - FED 5", 61 gt, at the Boat and Shiprepair Yard in Cuxhaven have been completed after the ship had suffered a leak with the size of a plate in the afternoon of April 1, 2019 south of Amrum. Only at 9 p.m. the skipper Andreas Thaden remarked water ingress in the forepeak. He ran his ship aground on the Hub Sand off Amrum island. After the leak was temporarily patched, the "Butjadingen" suffered severe water ingress when backing off the sand with assistance of the DGzRS-lifeboat "Ernst Meier-Hedde" from Wittdün, and Thaden grounded it again. Both cabins in the foreship were flooded. On April 2 a technician was transferred aboard by the lifeboat and tried to weld a steel sheet on the leak. Then the ship managed to reach the port of Cuxhaven. The cause of the breach in the 8-millimeter-steel of the hull was still unclear. On May 20 the ship started its first fishing trip after most of the repairs have been completed. Fire in engine room

Wed Jul 11 09:46:16 CEST 2012 Timsen

In the afternoon of July 10, 2012, the "Butjadingen" caught fire off Amrum. The crew requested help from the MRCC Bremen at 1.50 p.m. after they remarked the fire in the engine room. They had closed off the engine room and tried to proceed towards Wittdün. The liefboat "Vormann Leiss" of the DGzRS Station Amrum was launched and proceeded to the casualty, as well as the f/v "Jonas“ und and the passenger m/v "Hilligenley“. Finally the "Butjadingen“ reached the port of Wittdün with own power where the fire brigades from Wittdün and Süddorf were already waiting. They opened the engine room and extinguished the fire.
