Housekeeping storage caused smoke on deck 6

Tue Feb 12 11:02:57 CET 2019 Timsen

On Feb 11, 2019, at 3 a.m. smoke filled up one of the hallways on the "Carnival Sensation" at the end of a western Caribbean cruise. Initially it was thought a small fire broke out on deck 6. The emergency Alpha code was announced throughout the ship which meant there was a possible fire onboard and crew members who are trained to deal with these situations were told to attend. When fire crews arrived no fire was found on deck 6. The thick smoke was apparently coming from a housekeeping storage unit. Short time later, the smoke dissipated, The captain informed passengers with the PA system. The cruise ship was coming to the end of a 4-night western Caribbean cruise which departed Miami on Feb 7. Hours after the incident the ship arrived back into Miami at 8 a.m., being scheduled to depart for a 5-night sailing later in the day. Just the day before, the ship skipped a planned stop in Mexico so the U.S. Coast Guard could airlift out a sick crew member. The voyages complement a series of voyages to Cuba departing from Tampa aboard Carnival Paradise taking place in 2018-19.

Medevac off Key West

Tue Nov 07 13:23:07 CET 2017 Timsen

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a 66-year-old woman who needed medical care from the "Carnival Sensation". The Coastguard was notified early on Nov 7, 2017, that a passenger was suffering from a respiratory issue and needed additional medical care. The ship was directed to make its way to the Key West Sea Buoy to wait for a rescue crew. A Coast Guard boat crew launched from Key West and transferred the woman. She was taken to Key West where she received further medical treatment.
