Fire on fregate off Norway

Thu Nov 18 10:38:48 CET 2021 Timsen

On Nov 18, 2021, at 04.48 a.m. a fire broke out in the forward engine room of the 'Fredericton-F 337' (IMO: 4519267), which was participating in the manoever Flotex, off northern Trøndelag. The ship, which had sailed from Karlskrona on Nov 14, was disabled and adrift after the engine stopped. The Main Rescue Center (HRS) and the Armed Forces assisted the frigate. At 7 a.m. the fire was reportedly extinguished, and the ship, regained speed. The NSSR-lifeboat 'Harald V'* was deployed from Rørvik to assist and went on standby. There were warnings of gales and gusts of up to 16 meters per second in the area with very demanding weather conditions. The vessel was escorted by the patrol boat 'Njord' (IMO: 9353357) and the civilian tug 'Boa Balder' (IMO: 9462342) to Trondheim for repairs. At 6 p.m. the convoy was off the port, additionaly assisted by the tug 'TB Chief' (IMO: 257213000). AT 6.45 p.m. the fregate was safely berthed.
