20 stranded migrants transferred to Bahamas
The 'Margaret Norvell' transferred 20 migrants of Cuban nationality to the Bahamas on June 10, following a rescue on Anguilla Cay, Bahamas. Homeland Security Investigations Miami agents notified Seventh Coast Guard District watchstanders of a possible group of aliens stranded on Anguilla Cay on June 6. A Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations aircrew located the stranded people on the uninhabited island, and a Coast Guard Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew dropped food, water and a radio to establish communications. The Bahamian authorities requested U.S. Coast Guard agency assistance in rescuing the group. The Coast Guard Cutter 'Walnut' arrived on scene and tramsferred the migrants aboard due to safety of life at sea concerns pending their disposition. Once aboard the Coast Guard cutter, the migrants were processed to determine their identity and provided food, water, shelter, and basic medical attention before repatriation. The 'Margaret Norvell' rescued a mariner in distress on May 30, 2025,, after his vessel capsized approximately eight miles northwest of Freeport, Bahamas. The 23-year-old man was transported to Bahamian authorities in Freeport with no reported injuries. A friend of the mariner called Coast Guard Seventh District watchstanders on May 29 at 9:10 p.m., to report him overdue on his voyage from Lantana, Florida to Freeport. Watchstanders also coordinated the launch of an Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew. Coast Guard Cutter involved in SAR operation off St. Lucie Inlet
The 'Margaret Norvell' was among the units of the US Coast Guard, which searched for five missing people from a suspected failed smuggling venture on April 13, 2025,, approximately 29 miles off the St. Lucie Inlet. An Air Station Miami aircrew had rescued four people and transported them to local emergency medical services at Stuart Airport. One more was recovered dead, three suffered non-life threatening injuries and one has serious injuries. After the rescue, a survivor reported the vessel had departed Bimini with nine people on board on Aprl 11, and it had capsized on the early morning of Apil 12. The area was searched by air and sea for approximately seven hours, covering more than 1,240 square miles, before the operation was supsended. Besides the 'Margaret Norvell', the Coast Guard Stations Lake Worth Inlet and Fort Pierce , the Coast Guard Air Stations Miami and Clearwater, the Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations, the Homeland Security Investigations, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, the Martin County Sheriff's Office and the Martin County Fire Rescue were involved.
