Coast Guard Cutter involved in search for six missing people
The US Coast Guard along with federal, state and local agencies started searching for six persons on a downed aircraft near Point Loma, on the afternoon of June 8. Watchstanders at the Joint Harbor Operations Center in San Diego received the initial report at 12:45p.m. detailing a twin-engine Cessna 414 had crashed approximately three miles west of Point Loma. The depth of water below the debris field was reported to be approximately 200 feet. Besides the 'Sea Otter', the following assts were mobilized to respond: - Coast Guard Air Station Ventura MH-60 Jayhawk air crew; - Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento C-27 Spartan air crew; - Coast Guard Station San Diego 45-foot RB-M crew: - Coast Guard Maritime Safety & Security Team 29-foot RB-S crew; - Customs & Border Protection Air & Marine Operations crews; - San Diego Harbor Police boat crews; - San Diego Lifeguards. The Coast Guard suspended its search on June 10 at 10 a.m., pending further developments. The Coast Guard and partner agencies searched over 300 square miles for over 35 combined hours. 18 migrants interdicted off San Diego
The crew of Coast Guard Station San Diego, the 'Sea Otter' and the 'David Duren' apprehended 18 migrants in two separate interdictions off the coast of San Diego on April 13, 2025. At 6:50 p.m., a boat of the USCG Station San Diego intercepted a 25-foot cuddy cabin style vessel carrying eight people, among them five adult males and three adult females, all claiming Mexican nationality, approximately seven miles south of Point Loma. At 7:27 p.m., the 'Sea Otter' and the 'David Duren' interdicted an 18-foot cuddy cabin style vessel with 10 people on board, among them one female adult claiming South Korean nationality, four male and two female adults claiming Mexican nationality and three additional males with no identification, approximately 10 miles west of Point Loma. All 18 people were taken into custody by the Coast Guard and transferred to U.S. Border Patrol personnel.
37 migrants interdicted off Point Loma
The crew of the 'Sea Otter (WPB 87362)' interdicted 37 migrants from a 33-foot vessel, approximately seven nautical miles off Point Loma, on Nov 23. While on patrol, they spotted a vessel operating without navigation lights. The 'Sea Otte'r’s boarding team, along with members of U.S. Customs and Border Protection boarded the vessel and discovered the 37 migrants aboard. 30 were determined to be of Mexican nationality, two were identified as Salvadoran nationality, three of Guatemalan nationality, one of Colombian nationality, and one U.S. citizen, who was reported to be the operator of the vessel. They were taken to Ballast Point and transferred to CBP.
