Mayor still waiting for damage assessment

Mon Jan 20 09:56:42 CET 2020 Timsen

On Jan 18 the Mayor of Bolinao in Pangasinan stated that he was still waiting for the assessment of the damages done to the corals due to the grounding of the 'Chemitec'. The assessment will determine the penalty that will be imposed to the owner of the vessel. The shipping company already sent a letter of guarantee that their insurance company will cover the rehabilitation cost of the damaged area.

Lightering has started

Sun Dec 29 14:52:27 CET 2019 Timsen

On Dec 28 salvors have started transferring the cargo from the 'Chemitec' to another vessel. The Philippine Coast Guard in Pangasinan stated that while the load was being lightened, ballast water was being pumped onto the vessel to keep it stable. The PCG was still investigating the incident. A containment boom was on standby in case any oil leak occured.

Grounded tanker to be lightered

Sun Dec 22 11:40:11 CET 2019 Timsen

The cargo on board the 'Chemitec' was to be transferred to another vessel, which was expected to arrive in Pangasinan on Dec 22 in order to lighten the grounded vessel so far that it can be refloated. The Philippine Coast Guard was to check the salvage plans that the salvor firm has submitted and verify other documents before a salvage permit could be issued.
