Collision off Ghent

Thu May 24 21:23:35 CEST 2012 Timsen

The "Polargas" was in collision with the "Rhonita" on the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal in the night of May 24, 2012. The collision took place around 6.15 hours in Sluiskil, where the "Polargas" was berthed at Yara. The emergency services were put on high alert because the "Polargas" was carrying ammonia and LPG. The "Ronita" was coming from Ghent. Further investigation revealed that there was no evidence of leakage of hazardous substances, and the alarm was scaled down at 6.30 p.m. again. Rijkswaterstraat and the police took care of the "Ronita" shich was moored at the Kanaal Way. The "Polargas" was taken in tow by some tugs of Multraship and berted at the at the Industrie Way in Terneuzen.
