Barge towed stricken trawler to safety

Fri Oct 25 12:25:35 CEST 2013 Timsen

The "Coastal Discovery" assisted the Dunbar-based trawler "Scorpion - LH 183" and its two man crew on Oct 24, 2013, after their stricken vessel was swept onto an island in the Firth of Forth. The vessel had got into difficulties after ropes became trapped in its propeller. It was pushed by the strong winds and tide onto Craigleith Island off North Berwick. The Coastguard asked for help from passing shipping, an the "Coastal Discovery" went to the casualties assistance as lifeboat crews were scrambled. The "Scorpion"’s hull was damaged in the grounding and was taking in water. The two Dunbar lifeboats put three crew and a pump on board and managed to stem the flow and pump enough water out to allow the casualty to be towed back to its home port by the barge.
