Defective injector off Spurn Point

Sat Dec 22 13:11:26 CET 2018 Timsen

The "Coral Patula" en route from Antwerp to Tees with a crew of 17 on board suffered a defective high pressure fuel injector on the main engine, 25 miles northeast of Spurn Point, in position 53 42 53.4 N, 000 48 51.0 E on Dec 21, 2018, at 9 a.m. The crew noted increased temperatures on one of the vessel's main engine's cylinder units. Based on temperatures observed, the vessel could safely continue the voyage, and it was decided to stop the ship at a safe location in order to investigate the cause, informing both Coastguard and the company's technical superintendent about the incident. The investigation confirmed the earlier assumptions from the crew, and the fuel injectors were exchanged with onboard available spares. No assistance was requested, the repairs were completed within 30 minutes of notifying, and the vessel resumed the voyage to its destination Teesport where it berthed on Dec 22 at 8.40 a.m.

They will be renamed Coral Medusa and Coral Monactis respectively. The 8,000 cu m ethylene carriers Castel Nuovo (2009) and Castel Sant’ Elmo (2009) are expected to be delivered to Anthony Veder shortly after that, after leaving the Lauritzen Kosan Pool. They will be renamed Coral Pearl and Coral Patula.
