Captain has reached an agreement with the courts

Wed Aug 10 10:44:24 CEST 2022 Timsen

Jondy Ward, the captain of the 'Gert Cornelis', whch had immobilized in Le Havre in October 2021 during post-Brexit tensions over fishing between France and Great Britain, has reached an agreement on a suspended fine with the courts on Aug 9, 2022. He was called to appear for “unauthorized fishing in French waters with a vessel outside the European Union” on July 12 “as part of a procedure on prior recognition of guilt. The President of the Court approved the sentence of 2,000 euros in fine fully accompanied by the suspension on which the defendant and the prosecution had reached an agreement”. The trawler had been suspected of having fished more than two tonnes of scallops without a valid license and was detained in the port of Le Havre for a couple of days as part of tougher controls by French authorities in the Channel, while France was in conflict with the United Kingdom over post-Brexit fishing licenses. The ship finally had able to cast off after a week without having to pay a deposit.
