Search on for missing fisherman

Fri Oct 15 12:00:06 CEST 2021 Timsen

A search is underway off southern Nova Scotia for a 54-year-old fisherman who went missing from the fishing vessel 'Miss Janet', which was sailing from Shelburne to Saulnierville, N.S. on Oct 14, 2021, about 4 a.m. AT about 27 kilometres off the coast of Yarmouth, N.S. There were initially four people on board the vessel on Oct 13. Three of them went to sleep, leaving the captain in the wheelhouse. When one of them woke up at about 3:30 a.m., the captain was no longer in the wheelhouse. They searched the boat, but he wasn't on board. The crew immediately made a distress call. The Canadian Coast Guard Ship 'Clarks Harbour', the 'Corporal Teather', a Cormorant helicopter, a Hercules airplane and a PAL aircraft — a private airplane on contract with the military — were dispatched to the area. An additional coast guard vessel, CCGS 'Sir William Alexander', joined the search in the early afternoon. Fog had affected the visibility of the aircraft searching for the man, but the Coast Guard ships were continuing to search along with several commercial vessels. The 'Corporal Teather' was closest to the vessel, and when it arrived, members of the crew boarded the fishing vessel to pilot it back to shore, where it docked around 5 a.m.

Patrol ship suffered engine loss

Tue Mar 26 18:39:21 CET 2019 Timsen

The "Corporal Teather CV" with a crew of 11 on board, suffered a loss of power of the starboard main engine in position lat 043 52 54.0 N 064 20 18.0 W off Lunenburg on March 18, 2019, at 12.15 p.m. The vessel reached its destination using the port side engine. About 20 litres of lubrication oil spilled into the water as a result of the incident.
