Tanker refloated without lightering

On March 1, 2020, at 10.15 p.m. the 'Cyrano' refloated without lightering of the 4.000 tons cargo after the water level rose. In expectation of this a test of the engines and rudder was carried out, and the ship then got off the shallow, supported by another ship with a towing wire. The water police Ludwigshafen was monitoring the manoever, kept passing ships informed and coordinated the traffic. Grounding on the Rhine

In the afternoon of Feb 28, 2020, the 'Cyrano', 4151 ts (EU-No.: 06105189), ran aground on the Rhine at river km 388,8 near Germersheim in pos. 49° 15.22' N 008° 25.21' E. The ship was loasded with 4000 tons heating oil and was enroute from Karlsruhe to Rotterdam. A faulty disposition of the carfo could have contributed to the accident according to the police. The attempt to refloat the vessel by another vessel failed. The barge could be refloated in the night of March 1. It berthed in the port of Mannheim on March 2 at 1.25 a.m.
