First ship of Hapag-Lloyd "Dallas Express" connects to shore power at port of Oakland

The Hamburg based shipping line Hapag-Lloyd has connected its first ship to a shore power connection at the Port of Oakland in California . The port had completed the shore power connections with 6600 volts recently, as the shipping company announced on Monday in Hamburg. The Port of Oakland is one of the 20 largest ports in the world, also Los Angeles, for example, is working intensively on the issue of shore to ship power connections.

Antwerpen Express renamed to Dallas Express

The DALLAS EXPRESS was previous named ANTWEREPEN EXPRESS and was renamed 01-02-2012 in view of the newbuilding programma of HAPAG of 10 ULCC’s (10.000 > 13.000 TEU) and one of these newbuildings will be named ANTWERPEN EXPRESS.

Leaking hazardous container in Norfolk

Hazmat crews were called to the Norfolk International Terminal about a leaking container aboard the "Antwerpen Express" on Aug 17, 2011, at 3:45 p.m. Several workers complained of shortness of breath. Two were from the ship and six from NIT. They were decontaminated on site. Five were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and the other three to DePaul Medical Center. Their injuries are considered non life-threatening. Fire officials are investigating possible hazardous material.
