Replacement of Athena by Delphin cancelled
Classic International Cruises had been in talks to replace the Athena with German ship Delphin after it was impounded in France over debts, but talks in Europe broke down. Tonks told SmartCompany the administrators were still trying to get a replacement ship.
Cruise Liner Delphin chartered to Australia to replace impounded Athena
Six thousand passengers booked on cruises on the MV Athena in Australia this summer will be forced to travel on another ship instead after the vessel was impounded in France over debts. German ship MS Delphin has been chartered to replace the Athena, which was due to operate seven cruises out of Fremantle and four out of Adelaide over the coming months. Three of the five passenger ships in the Classic International Cruises fleet have been stranded overseas for unpaid debts and crew wages while negotiations continue with the Montepio Bank in Portugal.
The "Delphin" remains under detention in the lagoon of Venecia by Nov 11, 2010. 221 crewmembers, mostly Ukraininas, are waiting for their transit home. On Nov 16 the ITF will ensure the right of them to get paid on scene. But yet it is unclear how visa and travel costs may be paid.Upload News
