Chief died in explosion, two injuries
The "Eiwa Maru 3" suffered an explosion on sep 9, 2016, at 7.15 p.m. in the Kiisuido Strait, off the coast of the Wakayama Prefecture. Tge tanker was ballasting from Shimotsu, Wakayama, to Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, after offloading cargo in Shimotsu. The crew were cleaning the tanks, at the same time welding works on a cargo deck were carried out and sparks ignited oil fumes. In tne following explosion the Korean chief engineer and two Indonesian Crew members suffered burns and injures. The chief died in a hospital, the other two seamen were in stable condition. The tanker with the remaining crew of 10 was directed to Wakayama port and docked there in the morning of Sep 10.
