Three missing after tug capsized
The ‘Ever Winner‘ capsized in stormy seas on Jan 13, 2021, in the mouth of the Kuala Kinabatangan River off Sandakan on the east coast of Sabah. The ship was underway with the barge ‘Ever Eternity‘ One of the four-man crew, the 31-year-old flight engineer Asman Mohamad, was able to swim ashore to save himself. The other three were still missing. The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sandakan started an SAR operation after the owner alerted the Maritime Rescue Sub Center (MRSC) Kota Kinabalu at 4 p.m. The captain Mohamad Mal, 49, as well as the deckhands Mohd Hafiz Isyra Nagrah, 22, and Azlan Hassan, 23, were missing. On the barge was a fifth person, Roslie Antala, 48, who was found on the Kinabatangan coast. The barge had gone adrift after the tow line broke. Five boats from the MMEA, Marine Police, Marine, and the Fire and Rescue Department were mobilized to the 211 square miles wide search area.
