Barge of Fabico 2 sank on the Weser

On March 23, 2020, at 9 a.m. a barge being pushed by the 'Fabico 2' broke in two and sank at its berth on the Weser at Stolzenau at river km 244. The barge was being loaded at a gravel company with on the whole 1.200 tons gravel due to incorrect cargo distribution. When 900 tonnes were loaded over the conveyor belt, the accident happened. Only parts of the barge remained above the water. The police and water shipping authorities arrived and launched investigations. wThe recovery was expected to take several days. Probably on March 24, a diver was to examine the wreck. After that, the gravel first has to be lightened. Ship traffic on the Weser was hardly affected, but the berth was blocked by the wreckage.
