Ship of Gaza flottilla allegedly struck by drone

Wed Sep 10 13:12:03 CEST 2025 Timsen

A drone allegedly targeted the 'Family', the lead boat of a large flotilla set to try to break the Israeli maritime blockade on the Gaza Strip on Sep 8, 2025, at around midnight, and caused a fire on the foreship. The incident occurred inside the Tunisian port of Sidi Bou Said, from which the Global Sumud Flotilla plans to depart on Sep 10. The lead boat, “Family,” was set to carry Greta Thunberg and other activists. The vessel, carrying members of its steering committee, was struck by what was suspected to be a drone, with the six passengers and crew reported safe. The Tunisian authorities denied that there was zero drone activity in the area, which seems to have been proven as wrong. According to the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) for Gaza, the 'Family' carrying the flotilla's steering committee, sustained fire damage to its main deck and below-deck storage. The incident was captured on onboard CCTV and shared across social media channels. Videos showed the impact and ensuing flames on deck. The Tunisian police confirmed they had extinguished the fire and that the attack caused no casualties.
