Freighter crew assisted sinking former Admiral's Cup winner yacht off Cuxhaven

Wed Aug 12 09:40:58 CEST 2020 Timsen

On Aug 11, 2020, short before 11 p.m. the Polish yacht 'Sharki' (MMSI: 261011690) with a crew of seven on board allided with a fairway buoy five nautical miles west of Cuxhaven, suffered water ingress and started to sink. A mayday call alerted Bremen Rescue Radio which immediately contacted the boat. A woman reported the boat was sinking fast. The lifeboat ‘Anneliese Kramer‘ of the DGzRS-station Cuxhaven and the ‘Bürgermeister Brauer‘ of the water police in Hamburg, which was nearby, headed to the position. Bremen Rescue Radio issued an UMIB, and the ‘Fast Sam‘ on its way from Antwerp to Naestved reported to have located the sinking yacht and remained on standby while the crew of the boat had to abandon ship into a liferaft when it capsized at 11.30 p.m. The daughter boat ‘Mathias‘ of the lifeboat took on board the castaways - four men and three women - who were supplied with hot tea and dry clothes taken to Cuxhaven where they were accomodated by officers of the water police. Only one of them had suffered a minor cut. The daughter boat of the ‘Bürgermeister Brauer‘ took the liferaft on tow. The 'SHarki' had been heading to the Kiel Canal when the accident happened. It is the former 'Rubin' of the Hans Otto Schumann, who once presided the 'Deutsche Segler-Verbandes' and winner of the famous Admiral’s Cup in 1973 with the yacht.

Grounding on the Wester Scheldt

Fri Jun 21 10:45:22 CEST 2019 Timsen

The "Fast Sam", which had sailed from Antwerp at 6.45 p.m. bound to Næstved, ran aground on the Wester Scheldt at the E12 buoy on June 20, 2019. The tugs "Multratug 1", "Bravo" and "Patrol" arrived quickly on scene. At 9.30 p.m. the "Multratug 1" connected to the ship, followed by the "Bravo" at 10.20 p.m. Because the tide had already dropped too much, at 11.30 p.m. it was decided to postpone the refloating to the next flood. The ship was finally berthed in Flushing for investigations on June 21 at 5.45 a.m. at the roro pontoon north in the Quarles Port.
